Bank officials expressed a desire to create a new image as they established their presence in Mercer and Raleigh counties. They wanted their new branch to signify an enthusiastic pledge to community and to promote a strong, positive image. The building was designed to take advantage of the prominent location (14,000 cars pass by daily) and to make a dramatic presentation both during daylight and evening hours. The small site, which had previously been the home of a "quick-stop" market, offered a challenge. Our directive was to "fit" a full-service branch bank of approximately 7400 sf with drive-thru facilities and parking onto the site.
